Our Veterinarians

Dr. Robert Griffith
Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Griffith says that asking him why he became a veterinarian is like asking him why he has green eyes—it was simply meant to be! Rob remembers wanting to be a veterinarian since he was only eight years old.

Born in a small town in Georgia, Dr. Griffith attended the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1979. He then moved to Columbus, Georgia to start his career. After a few years, Rob started looking for a practice closer to home. A friend told him about a possible position at Smyrna Animal Hospital, which Dr. Griffith accepted in March 1984. He worked as an Associate Veterinarian until 2003, when he was given the opportunity to purchase the clinic.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Griffith enjoys internal medicine and emergency cases. Often, he calls veterinary specialists for consultations, which helps him stay current on the diagnostics and treatments of various cases. Improving the quality of life for a pet and owner is the most rewarding feeling for him!

Rob has two pets of his own: Lexie, a Yorkie terrier who chews on everything but her chew toys, and Lillie, a Yorkie terrier. Both dogs keep Dr. Griffith company when he’s working late at the hospital.

Dr. Griffith is involved with several local veterinary societies and has served on the board of directors for several of them. He also likes reading, catching movies, listening to music, and writing poetry—he’s even had several published!
Dr. Dawn Cason
Associate Veterinarian
Since childhood, Dawn had an intense interest in all creatures. Her aptitude for biology combined with her love of animals led to her selecting veterinary medicine as her ideal profession!

An Atlanta native, Dr. Cason attended the University of Georgia for her undergraduate studies and to receive her DVM degree. After working with horses, cattle, and goats in her earlier years, Dawn came to Smyrna Animal Hospital in 1992 as a relief veterinarian. She couldn’t pull herself away, and has been here ever since!

Dr. Cason is especially proud of the high standards for medical and surgical care set at Smyrna Animal Hospital. She also loves the cooperative work environment with her colleagues and can’t say enough great things about the wonderful staff she works with.

Dawn has two children, as well as a menagerie of pets—five cats and a pair of rats. She’s also very interested in wildlife, especially turtles. She has performed surgery on injured or sick wild turtles and released them back into the wild. While in school at UGA, she worked with Loggerhead Sea Turtles on the coastal islands of Georgia!
Dr. David A. Wolf
Associate Veterinarian
From the age of nine, Dr Wolf knew he wanted to practice veterinary medicine. As he states “God then opened up every door necessary”. Dr. Wolf is the previous owner of Smyrna Animal Hospital and now serves as an Associate Veterinarian.

Dr. Wolf grew up in Buffalo, New York, and attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. His first veterinary position was in Alexandria, Virginia, where he also met his wife of 40 years. He moved to West Lauderdale, Florida, then visited Atlanta after four years. He loved the southern hospitality and decided to stay! He began at Smyrna Animal Hospital in 1978 and owned the clinic until 2003.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Wolf particularly enjoys working with clients—he loves meeting people and treating them and their pets as he would his own. He has a special interest in surgery because of the dramatic positive impact it can have on a pet’s life and well-being.

Dr. Wolf has three sons, three daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren, all of whom live close by. At home, he has two dogs: Sadie, a motherly lab, and Zoey, a Chi/Westie mix and one cat, Chambers.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr Wolf enjoys his local church, his grandkids and golf, a sport he’s been playing for 50 years. He never uses a cart, choosing to walk instead. He says his game peaked at age 14!
