5 Easy Ways to Show Your Cat Respect

Respect Your Cat Day is March 28th! This is a big one for our feline friends. Kitties may be small, but they certainly do have a way of wrapping us around their paws. However, truly respecting your pet doesn’t mean serving Fluffy her dinner in a crystal bowl or having huge portraits commissioned of her. It’s actually much simpler than that! A Marietta, GA vet offers tips on respecting your cute pet in this article.

Clean Litterbox

You can’t really blame Fluffy for wanting her litterbox kept clean. No one likes a dirty bathroom! We recommend scooping the box out daily and changing the litter every week or so. Location is also important. The box should be in a spot that is easy for your pet to reach, but still offers her some privacy.

Veterinary Care

In addition to having your cat spayed and microchipped, it’s also important to keep up with her wellness care. Parasite controls will keep Fluffy free of fleas and ticks, which can make her very uncomfortable and itchy, while vaccinations help keep her safe from dangerous diseases.

Window View

Fluffy won’t enjoy sitting in a dark, quiet room with nothing to do any more than you would. Offer your furball lots of toys, and play with her regularly. We also recommend giving your kitty a comfy bed with a good window view. Cats can spend hours just watching birds and squirrels!

Spay/Neuter

We know, many of our feline patients—especially the male ones—would probably take issue with this one. However, getting Fluffy fixed will help prevent unwanted litters, which is the main reason behind pet overpopulation. It also helps prevent many health and behavioral issues. If your kitty hasn’t been fixed yet, we recommend doing this right away. This promotes good animal welfare, which is a great way to respect all cats!

Cat Towers

Although Fluffy doesn’t mind ‘borrowing’ your furniture, she’ll really appreciate some things of her own. Cat towers are great, as they serve many of your kitty’s needs. Fluffy will gain a scratching post, napping spot, and a jungle gym … as well as a great vantage point from which to survey her kingdom with the cute smug look cats do so well.
