Fluffy’s Rules For Working From Home With Cats

Take Your Cat To Work Day is coming up on June 20th. Out of all the unofficial pet holidays and observance days on the calendar, this is probably the only one that would actually be a pretty bad idea for most of us. Of course, if you are working from home, you may already have a feline coworker … one who clearly wants to micromanage you. In fact, your kitty may already have her policies figured out. A local Marietta, GA vet lists a few of them below.

Pet The Cat

This is important for two reasons. One, because your feline overlord clearly expects it. The other? Being able to pet a purring kitty as you are working can be great stress relief!

Provide Desk Space

Our feline friends like to stick pretty close to their humans. Fluffy may very well want to sprawl out on your desk while you are working … which of course means she’ll constantly be in your way. One solution here would be to put a box on your desk.

Offer Supplies

When working from home, you’ll probably need to provide your own supplies. Be sure to keep a few pens on your desk at all times, so Fluffy can knock them onto the floor.

Get A Sturdy Chair

There are a few things to consider here. If you get a chair with a thick, comfy backrest, Fluffy may decide to use it as yet another napping spot. Also, keep in mind that if you get a cloth or leather chair, it’s probably going to double as a kitty nail care station.

Share The Computer

It probably doesn’t make much sense for you to buy your furball her own desk and computer, so you’ll have to share yours. Of course, cats use computers for different purrposes than we do. To you, it’s a crucial piece of equipment, and a lifeline to your work and company. To Fluffy, it’s just another bed, except it has the added bonus of warmth. (Tip: set your screen lock time to 30 or even 15 seconds. If Fluffy walks over your keyboard when you get up for something, she’ll only have a few seconds to erase that report you were working on.)
